"The flame never dies where truth abides."

DISGUST

When You Can’t Stand

What You See

Yes, the world is broken

- but so were we.

Romans 3:10-12

as it is written:

There is no one righteous, not even one.

11 There is no one who understands;

there is no one who seeks God.

12 All have turned away;

all alike have become worthless.

God still chose to love and save

us while we were vile.

Romans 5:8

But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

His Word reorients your perspective when sin seems overwhelming.

2 Timothy 3:16

All Scripture is inspired by God, and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness,

A Message for the Disillusioned:

Sometimes you just feel sick—sick of what’s happening around you, or even sick of yourself.

Maybe it’s the state of the world: the cruelty, the injustice, the filth. Maybe it’s someone close to you who’s let you down—or maybe it’s you. Disgust creeps in quietly, then clings like smoke. It can harden your heart before you even realize it.

But before you turn away in bitterness or shame, remember this: God looked at you in your filth and didn’t flinch. He moved toward you. He didn’t dismiss your sin—He died for it.

We live in a world that is indeed broken. The moral rot we feel is real. But here’s the truth that softens our soul: we were just as broken, and yet Jesus loved us anyway. That doesn’t mean we excuse sin. It means we look at others the way He looked at us—not with disgust, but with redemptive compassion.

When disgust rises, Scripture grounds you. It reminds you what’s true: the problem isn’t just “out there.” It’s in every human heart. But that’s exactly where God does His most miraculous work.

So if you’re repulsed, repelled, or ready to give up—don’t run. Let God reset your vision.

Prayer:

God, help me to see through Your eyes

—and not my disgust.

Remind me of the mercy You showed me when I was blind in my own sin.

Cleanse my thoughts, soften my heart, and help me walk in grace and truth.

Don’t let me grow bitter.

Let me grow more like You.

Amen.

For Deeper Reflection: Doctrinal Foundations

Biblical Authority – Scripture Alone

The Word of God is the lens that shows us what is truly good, evil, and redeemable—and how to respond to all three.

Human Sinfulness – Total Depravity

Disgust often blinds us to the fact that our own hearts were just as dark before Christ intervened.

Sovereign Grace – Unconditional Election

God didn’t choose us because we were clean. He chose us to cleanse us—and to show the world what mercy looks like.
