What Are Brushfires?

Brushfires is a discipleship-driven small group initiative developed in partnership with The Church at Woodlawn in Paducah, Kentucky, under the spiritual oversight of Pastor Brad Henson. While Brushfires is part of the broader ministry of Brushwood Press, it operates specifically as a church-integrated model for equipping believers through relational discipleship and sound doctrine.
Designed to function within the structure of the local church, Brushfires groups gather in both church facilities and members’ homes to foster deep community, biblical engagement, and spiritual growth. Each lesson is rooted in one of ten core doctrines and structured to spark intentional conversation, theological reflection, and active participation in the life of the body.

Unlike typical curriculum that either leans academic or overly casual, Brushfires aims for something higher: a theologically rich, conversationally approachable, and spiritually transformative experience. Under pastoral guidance, each group is empowered to not only understand doctrine but to live it—through evangelism, burden-bearing, and obedience shaped by truth.
Brushfires exists to help churches build discipleship that’s not just content-heavy, but community-driven. It’s where sound doctrine meets lived-out love.

Mission Statement
Brushfires exist to cultivate a discipleship-driven community within the local church by equipping believers to engage in meaningful conversations, grow in sound doctrine, and actively bear one another’s burdens. Through a structured yet relational approach, Brushfires provide a space for intentional evangelism, theological depth, and tangible acts of love—ensuring that every person is not just welcomed but wanted.
